Event Roundup: HP Discover, Cloud Expo, Dell Forum

While the big announcements were being made at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference Monday there were several other technology conferences under way from HP, the Cloud Expo, Dell Storage Forum and Data Centres Europe.

HP Discover 2011

The HP Discover 2011 conference is June 6-10 in Las Vegas and is an enterprise business event for everyone who interacts with HP and a place to experience their entire portfolio of products, solutions and services.  HP COE Leo Apotheker announced a commitment to the cloud and said there would be a public HP cloud 'soon'.  HP also announced $2 billion in financing to be made available for cloud initiatives. Cloud Expo New York

The 8th international Cloud Expo is in New York this week and covers the entire scope of the cloud computing spectrum. Dell's Steve Schuckenbrock delivered the opening keynote speak, Terremark confirmed that their name will continue as the cloud brand for enterprises from Verizon, and Barton George interviewed Peder Ulander, CTMO of Cloud.com.  CA Technologies announced that ScaleMatrix launched Cloud in a Box, a new solution powered by A 3Tera AppLogic, allowing companies to deliver public, private or hybrid clouds in hours rather than days or weeks.  You can follow conference updates at #CloudExpo.

Dell Storage Forum

The inaugural Dell Storage Forum kicked off in Orlando, Florida Monday for the week, for customers and partners to learn about Dell storage technology. It combines events from Dell Compellent C-Drive and Dell EqualLogic User Conference events.   The conference will announce new solutions built on its Fluid Data Architecture, also known as the Dell Compellent Storage Center SAN.  “We have been working to transform Dell Storage, including many strategic investments in Dell IP over the past 12 months through product development and multiple acquisitions. We now have the broadest and most complete product offering in our history. As we transform Dell storage and expand our Fluid Data Architecture, this week we will to share with customers our vision and goals and listen to understand how we can help them solve their IT problems," said said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager, Dell Enterprise Storage. Data Centres in Europe 2011 Awards

In London on June 2nd the Data Centres in Europe 2011 Awards was held to recognize companies in categories from facilities to clouds and innovation in the data center industry.  Colt received the European Award for Energy Efficiency in Data Centres as an example to the industry of energy efficiency innovation. Interxion (INXN) took home the award for Colocation. Interxion's Anthony Foy also won the Data Centre Entrepreneur of the Year Award - Large Enterprise category. Rackspace was awarded for their innovation in the industry with the Judge's award for Data Center Achievement. Michael Tobin, CEO of TelecityGroup was given the Judge's award for lifetime achievement and contribution to the Data Centre industry.
