QTS (Quality Technology Services)
One of the power rooms inside the new QTS Richmond Data Center.
has leased space in its huge new data center in Richmond, Virginia to a leading provider of IT services to the federal government, the companies said yesterday
. Planned Systems International (PSI) will lease a private colocation suite to house its Department of Defense (DOD) client’s IT environment. Terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed.
QTS is sharpening its focus on federal agencies with its new QTS Government Services unit, which markets colocation space and managed services tailored for government users. The federal government is in the midst of a major data center consolidation.
“QTS demonstrated tremendous flexibility and creativity in providing a customized data center solution that was not only compliant, but also provided the utmost in security that our mutual government client required,” said John Dorman, chief technology officer – Planned Systems International. “We are very happy with our partnership with QTS and our combined capability for delivering high value data center and cloud solutions to our customers.”
1.2 Million Square Feet of Space
QTS bought the former Qimonda semiconductor plant near Richmond in a bankruptcy court sale
last year. It is retrofitting the 1.2 million square foot facility for data center use, taking advantage of existing infrastructure that includes 22,000 tons of chiller capacity on site, and a campus power capacity of 100 megawatts. QTS will offer custom data suites from 1,000 to 50,000 square feet in Richmond, as well as colocation and managed service options.
“Given the high-security data center and office space solutions that are available on our Richmond campus, QTS was able to quickly create a private suite where PSI can process their most sensitive data,” said Scott Shinberg, executive vice president of federal systems – QTS. “By designing a facility that offers not only high-quality raised floor space, but also secure office space, QTS offers a unique combination of solutions on a scale that highly selective clients are not able to find elsewhere.”
has built a network of 12 data center facilities spanning more than 3 million square feet of space, growing through acquisitions of facilities and customers from eDeltaCom, IBM, NTT America and Globix. The company offers both wholesale data center space and managed services.
