Report: Large Project Eyes Colorado Springs

Economic development officials are asking the Colorado state government to participate in a package of incentives for a Fortune 100 company that is considering Colorado Springs as the site of a $100 million dollar data center project.

Economic development officials in Colorado Springs are asking the state government to participate in a package of incentives for a Fortune 100 company that is considering Colorado Springs as the site of a $100 million dollar data center project, according to local media.

Colorado Springs is a finalist for the project, which is considering one other location, according to Mike Kazmierski, president of the Colorado Springs Regional Economic Development Corp., which has pulled together a package of local incentives at the city and county level, but is now looking to state officials to further sweeten the deal.

“This deal isn’t done,” Kazmierski told the Colorado Springs Gazette. “If we can’t pull the proposed incentives package together, they will go to their other option." Kazmierski told the paper thatthe other finalist has offered a “more robust” package of incentives, he said.

Colorado Springs, a city of 410,000 located about 60 miles south of Denver,  is home to existing data centers for Verizon Wireless, HP, FedEx, T. Rowe Price, Progressive and Intel, among others. The climate will support free cooling for much of the year.

Developer Vince Colarelli of the Vineyard Project told the Gazette that the mystery company looked at the Vineyard site, but is currently focused on another  property.
