Cloud News: Morphlabs, Vyatta, Telx, Cisco, Xerox

Morphlabs announces mCloud Data Center Unit, Vyatta and Cloud.com partner, Telx launches CloudXchange, Cisco and Xerox form cloud alliance.

Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Morphlabs Announces mCloud. Morphlabs announced it has engaged with Arista Networks, Broadband Tower Inc., Citrix Systems Inc. (CTXS), CoreSite Realty Corporation (COR) and Nexenta Systems to deliver its mCloud Data Center Unit (DCU).  The mCloud DCU is a best-of-breed, pre-integrated set of cloud building blocks featuring end-to-end fault tolerance, scalable infrastructure and highly-flexible cloud compute, storage and network services that rival other leading industry offerings at a fraction of the price. “In this young and burgeoning market, we are very excited with the acceptance of our solutions by a robust ecosystem,” says Winston Damarillo, founder and CEO of Morphlabs.

Vyatta and Cloud.com Partner. Software-based networking company Vyatta announced a joint solution with Cloud.com for advanced connectivity and security for cloud infrastructures. Combining Vyatta's Network OS and Cloud.com's CloudStack the joint solution will enable unique infrastructure build-out in the cloud by including Layer 2 cloud bridging, Intrusion Prevention, and N-tier network management in addition to stateful firewalling, IPSec and SSL-based VPN and secure web filtering. "Enterprise applications and data are protected by complex network infrastructures that must be replicated in the cloud while still maintaining the elasticity, automation and flexible business logic that the cloud promises,” said Tom McCafferty, vice president of marketing, Vyatta. “Combining Cloud.com’s industry-leading cloud infrastructure software and Vyatta’s Network OS enables businesses to benefit from advanced network security in the cloud by delivering network infrastructure as cloud-ready application.”

Telx launches CloudXchange. Telx launched its new cloudXchange connectivity platform, a solution for cloud service providers to offer on-demand applications and infrastructure via a distributed, hybrid delivery model. “Telx’s cloudXchange is the meeting place where cloud services, carrier networks and Enterprise come together; purpose-built in response to our cloud provider customers’ growing need for reliable, cloud-neutral, carrier-neutral connectivity choices within all 15 of our data center locations,” said Darryl Brown, Director of Cloud and SaaS services for Telx. Telx will debut  the cloudXchange at Interop Las Vegas all this week.

Cisco and Xerox Form Cloud Alliance. Cisco (CSCO) and Xerox (XRX) announced that they intend to form an alliance to simplify IT management by delivering cloud-based services and technology solutions that combine network intelligence and print. Cisco's intelligent network infrastructure will deliver Xerox's managed print and cloud IT outsourcing (ITO) services to customers. The two companies will collaborate on Xerox Managed Print Services (MPS) over Cisco Borderless Networks, Xerox Cloud (ITO) services built Cisco UCS and Vblock infrastructure, and Xerox mobile print solution on Cisco virtual desktop clients and Cisco Cius. "Aligning Cisco and Xerox cloud offerings brings the power of intelligent networking to printing and helps our mutual customers drive innovation across their businesses and become more agile and reduce costs. This strategic alliance also creates a tremendous opportunity for channel partners to grow revenue by building cloud practices," said John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco.
