Storage Failures Hamper Cloud Foundry

Cloud Foundry, the new cloud platform hosted by VMware, has experienced problems with its storage infrastructure today. Cloud Foundry says the issues have affected its cloud controller system, limiting users’ ability to log in and manage their applications. Existing applications will continue to run, but are unable to recover if they experience problems.

“Early this morning we experienced multiple failures in a portion of our storage infrastructure,” CloudFoundry said in a notice on its web site. “The failure in the storage infrastructure has been identified and corrected, but it is a slow process to safely bring the system back up to full operational status and to ensure and validate that there has been no loss of data … At this point in time we have no reason to believe that there has been any loss of data. ”

UPDATE: Cloud Foundry says all services have been restored as of 4 pm Pacific.

Cloud Foundry is the updated open Platform as a Service (PaaS) project announced Tuesday by VMware. It can support multiple frameworks, multiple cloud providers, and multiple application services all on a cloud scale platform. The project features, a complete hosted PaaS environment, and, an open source project where developers and community members can collaborate and contribute to the project.

Today’s problems follow closely on the heels of an extended outage for Amazon Web Services, the leading cloud computing service provider.
