Last week the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force in Dayton, Ohio hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Cray XE6 supercomputer. The new system is named “Raptor” after the USAF F-22 fighter jet, and has 43,712 compute cores (16 cores/node), 2 gigabytes of memory per core and 1.5 petabytes of local (workspace) storage.
