Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:
LayeredTech selected by Model N. Layered Tech announced  that it has been selected by Model N  to provide a custom, highly secure virtual environment to support its SaaS-based Revenue Management Applications, called Revenue Management Cloud (RM Cloud). Using a VMware environment the RM Cloud will give their customers anytime, anywhere access to its solutions while reducing recurring annual costs. Layered Tech will also work closely with Model N customers to provide robust managed services and best-in-class security and certification. “When we began our search for a cloud provider, we knew it was important for us to partner with a vendor who could provide flexibility with their private-cloud offerings, and after meeting with Layered Tech’s extremely skilled team, it was clear that they had the right mix of expertise, capability, and customer service to meet our needs. In addition, we outlined very stringent requirements, especially for protecting our customers’ sensitive data, and Layered Tech showed us that they could deliver,” said Richard Yu, Vice President of Cloud Computing at Model N.
Emerson to design 6 data centers for Datacraft. Emerson Network Power (EMR) announced  that iti has secured a contract to design six data centers for IT services provider Datacraft in India. With a total footprint of 66,000 square feet Emerson will provide design and infrastructure components for the future six facilities. Datacraft will operate and manage the data centers, and Indian telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) will offer their hosting and cloud services, targeting central and state government agencies. The companies are planning to build the data centers for an Uptime Tier III reliability certification and an expected PUE of 1.7.
RightScale expands Asia-Pacific Operations. RightScale announced  the establishment of RightScale Japan, Inc., a wholly-owned Japanese subsidiary based in Tokyo. In addition to the recent announcement appointing Yosuke Shindo as Sales and Business Development Director for Japan, RightScale will provide immediate support of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure region in Japan. “Japan is a fast-growing market for cloud computing, and demand for RightScale has been high in the region, especially for local presence and support,” said Michael Crandell, RightScale CEO. “Through our new subsidiary, our existing and future Japanese customers have full support to take advantage of RightScale’s platform to easily deploy, automatically manage and scale their cloud applications across multiple public and private clouds with enhanced control and optimal performance.”
Riverbed selected by Khaleej Times. Riverbed (RVBD) announced  that Khaleej Times, a United Arab Emirates newspaper, has deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances across its organization to improve access to its business-critical applications that are centrally located in its private cloud infrastructure. Instead, Khaleej Times was introduced to the Riverbed WAN optimization solution by its IT partner, Teksalah. As Mohan Kumar Shetty, systems manager for Khaleej recalled, “we were delighted to learn that the Riverbed solution could be implemented in a matter of minutes without causing disruption to our IT infrastructure, and when we tested the appliances we saw an immediate improvement in file download speeds.” After the Steelhead appliances were installed the newspaper realized on average a 5x improvement in file download speeds.
