VMware (VMW) announced it has reached a milestone in delivering the enterprise hybrid cloud with the availability of VMware vCloud Datacenter services from multiple vendors.
VMware Partner Exchange
The VMware
Partner Exchange [1] (
#PEX2011 [2]) kicked off Tuesday in Orlando as VMware highlighted
IDG Research [3] that shows two-thirds of enterprises are adopting or planning to adopt cloud computing, primarily driven by the need to deliver improved business agility. With vCloud Data center services addressing enterprise security concerns in the cloud they announced availability of these services from
BlueLock [4] and
Colt [5] and beta services available from
Verizon [6].
vCloud
Architected and certified by VMware,
vCloud Datacenter services [7]are comprised of vSphere, vCloud Director and vShield products from VMware. “Enterprise IT organizations have been stymied by an inability to get the required performance, security and application portability from commodity public clouds. With vCloud Datacenter Services and vCloud Connector, VMware and its partners provide an evolutionary path to an IT revolution for millions of existing datacenter applications,” said Mathew Lodge, senior director, cloud services at VMware.
By collaborating with VMware vCloud Powered service providers, VMware solution providers can extend their engagements to include hybrid cloud services, allowing their customers to benefit from the agility of cloud computing with the security, performance and application portability they need.
Matthew Lodge blogged about reality checks for cloud evolution in
Cloud, meet Enterprise. [8]
vCloud Connector
Coming out of beta, the vCloud Connector is a bridge to the cloud, giving vSphere administrators a unified view of vSphere infrastructure and vCloud public and private clouds. It will be available as a free download in the first quarter of 2011.
vCloud Datacenter Services are available immediately through US-based BlueLock, pan-European provider Colt, and as a beta through Verizon Business. vCloud partners
Terremark [9] and
Singtel [10] are developing vCloud data center services as well.
