PEER 1 Hosting building UK Data Center - PEER 1 Hosting has begun build out on a 50,000 square foot green datacenter in Portsmouth, UK, the company said today. Rather than building out large datacenter spaces all at once, the Portsmouth datacenter will incorporate a POD design (Performance Optimized Datacenter). The first of four POD stages is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011 at an initial cost of £10 million. The remaining stages will be dedicated to additional datacenter space and infrastructure which will be built out in three future phases based upon customer demand and market conditions. IBM Launches $42 Million Cloud Computing Center in Canada - IBM today unveiled the company’s first cloud delivery centre in Canada.With the new $42 million IBM Compute Cloud Centre, Canadian businesses can securely develop, host and test applications. Among the first clients to take advantage of the IBM Compute Cloud Centre’s offerings in Canada are VisionMax, a Canadian-based custom software development firm offering IT solutions, and Buchanan Technologies, an IBM Canada business partner and IT professional services firm.

Hudson Fiber Network opens up NY and Toronto fast paths - Due to increased customer demand, Hudson Fiber Network (HFN) has opened up three, ultra-low latency, Fast Path fiber routes enabling metro and international customers to reach the top financial hubs at 755 Secaucus Rd. in NJ, 300 Blvd. East in Weehawken, NJ, 151 Front St. in Toronto and Steeles Ave. in Markham, Canada. The University of Salford Chooses Unisys - Unisys Corporation (UIS) today announced that its UK subsidiary has won a contract for a data centre transformation project from the University of Salford. The 13-month contract, signed in the third quarter of 2010, has a value of approximately $US9.2 million. Unisys will design and implement an advanced IT infrastructure by integrating new server, storage and networking platforms and delivering an upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2010. Press release.
