Earlier this month, colocation provider Equinix announced plans to expand its second data centerin Tokyo. Apparently that won't be enough space to meet demand. Today Equinix unveiled plans for a third International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Tokyo, Japan. The $70 million TY3 data center is, targeted for completion in mid-2011, and will offer 960 cabinet equivalents in about 80,000 square feet of space.
The TY3 IBX data center will be housed within the Tokyo City Center, offering close proximity to the major financial exchanges, a critical enabler of high performance trading.
“The accelerated digitization of the world economy has heightened the demand for Equinix as companies look to optimize the performance of their business applications and connect to strategic partners within a business ecosystem,” said Kei Furuta, managing director, Equinix Japan K.K. “Currently, we are seeing strong interest from across multiple industries, supporting our commitment to add customer-driven capacity to our global platform.”
The Tokyo expansion continues a strong focus for Equinix on the Asia/Pacific market. In addition to the second phase expansion of its TY2 data center in Tokyo, the company ius expending facilities in Sydney, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
