- Merlin: Capgemini’s Modular Data Center - Merlin is an intriguing project, as it combines many of the latest trends and best practices in modular data center design and cooling. Capgemini says its use of pre-manufactured modules will allow it to deploy customer space in just 22 weeks.
- First Look: Dell’s New Modular Data Center - The latest company to roll out a new modular offering is Dell Data Center Solutions (DCS), which is introducing a streamlined modular unit that offers expandable capacity and multiple power and cooling options.
- Google Adds Capacity for Instant Launch - Google Instant search will generate 5 to 7 times the volume of search results pages. Instead of buying a gazillion more servers, Google’s engineering team hunkered down with the other teams involved in the Instant launch and developed workarounds.
- Hurricane Electric Accelerates Growth Plan - Colocation provider Hurricane Electric said today that it has accelerated plans to further expand its Fremont 2 data center, citing high customer demand for space.
- An Umbrella for Server Racks? - Most data center managers would agree that when you have water dripping through the ceiling of your data center, you already have a huge problem. A company called Turtle Shell Industries is marketing a product to provide the last line of defense in this worrisome scenario.
- Digital Realty Guarantees On-Time Delivery - Digital Realty Trust (DLR) is now offering guarantees that its data center construction projects will be completed on schedule. The company says it believes it is the first provider to offer assurances that projects will be delivered on time and on budget
- Latisys Plans Major Expansion in Irvine - Colocation and managed hosting provider Latisys continues to build its national footprint of data center facilities. This week the company announced plans to build a new 93,000 square foot data center in Irvine, Calif., adjacent to its existing OC1 facility.
