Symantec delivers appliances and clouds, GreenQloud partners with Nimsoft, Zeus announces general availability of Elastic Application Delivery Platform.

Here’s a roundup of this week’s headlines from the cloud computing sector:

Symantec delivers appliances and clouds.  Symantec (SYMC) announced NetBackup 5000 deduplication appliance and cloud storage for NetBackup and Backup Exec to help organizations reduce their storage footprint and more effectively leverage cloud-based data storage services.  “By extending the benefits of Symantec NetBackup through appliance and cloud delivery models, we are helping our customers reduce complexity and cost without putting an organization’s infrastructure, information and intellectual property at risk," said Brian Dye, vice president of product management, Information Management Group at Symantec.  The NetBackup 5000 Appliance aims for operational simplicity while providing up to 96 terabytes of usable global dedupe capacity and backup throughput of up to 4.3 terabytes per hour, per node. Through its Open Storage API Symantec pairs NetBackup with Nirvanix cloud storage services to deliver a reliable and simple way to drive down information management costs and utilize the cloud for disaster recovery.  The NetBackup 5000 appliance and connector for Nirvanix are available now in select countries worldwide, with the Backup Exec connector for Nirvanix expected before the end of Symantec's fiscal year 2011.

GreenQloud partners with Nimsoft. Nimsoft, a CA Technologies company, announced that GreenQloud has selected the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution (NMS) to provide clients with 24x7 visibility into its unique, carbon-neutral compute cloud. "Clients are very interested in becoming more environmentally responsible when it comes to IT, but they certainly don’t want to achieve that responsibility at the cost of service quality or peace of mind," said Eirikur Hrafnsson, CEO and co-founder of GreenQloud. "With Nimsoft, we are complementing our best-of-the-best energy model with best-of-the-best monitoring capabilities." The NMS solutions will integrate with GreenQloud's pay-per-use pricing model, offering a flexible set of monitoring options ranging from a baseline package to a variety of premium add-ons.

Zeus Elastic Application Delivery platform.  UK based Zeus Technology announced the general availability of the Zeus Elastic Application Delivery (ZEAD) platform, which delivers fast, secure and available applications across any combination of physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. The three main components that make up the ZEAD platform include a traffic manager, multi-site manager and load balancer. Operating from within a virtualized infrastructure it supplies the tools for hybrid cloud application delivery, cloud bursting and balancing. ZEAD platform is available on a range of hypervisors including VMware, Xen, KVM and OracleVM. It is also available on cloud platforms such as Amazon EC2, Logicworks, Joyent, Voxel and Rackspace. Zeus exhibited their new platform at the recent VMworld 2010 in San Francisco.
