Wipro Launches Pre-Fab Data Centers

Wipro Infotech has entered the market for pre-fabricated data centers. The subsidiary of India's Wipro Limited announced the launch of its FluidState Data Centers, a model-driven framework data center that Wipro says is prefabricated and, once manufactured, can be set up in less than a week.

The FluidState solution combines technology from Cisco, HP, Hitachi and EMC and stands for Flexible, Lean, Upgradable, Intelligent Data Center. Wipro will offer both indoor and outdoor versions of the FluidState data center with Nano, Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus models available. Wipro has used the flexible design in several customer installations, including a data center for the Indian Institute of Management (IIMB).

"Given the unprecedented growth in data and need for increased computing power in DCs, FluidState offers a simple solution whereby businesses can easily deploy data centers in the shortest possible time," said Achuthan Nair, VP and Business Head, Professional Services Division, Wipro, India, Middle East and Africa, "We are excited and confident that this innovative, next-generation Data Center model will be the trend-setter in flexibility and adoption of green practices in Data Center design and operations in the days to come."

A growing number of vendors are introducing data center container products, with recent entries including Datapod, i/o Data Centers and Colt. The growing interest in containers dovetails with an intensifying focus on modular designs that can provide predictable, repeatable components for IT and power systems.

Wipro Technologies was recently reported as looking at 215,000 square feet of land near Charlotte, North Carolina. strategy+business magazine interviewed co-CEO of Wipro Technologies Girish Paranjpe about the company, green initiatives and the global technology services sector.
