Roundup: Juniper, Level 3, Telx

Juniper (JNPR) donates $2.5 million to Internet2, Level 3 (LVLT) connects into BATS Europe, Telx selected by Carrier to Carrier.

Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Juniper donates $2.5 million to Internet2. Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced it will make a $2.5 million cash donation to Internet2, an advanced networking consortium led by the research and education community, in support of the development of a new, nationwide 100 Gigabit per second network serving U.S. community institutions. Juniper has been a corporate partner for Internet2 as well as a principal provider of IP networking equipment since 2002. Internet2 will deploy Juniper MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, T Series Routers and supporting services. Speaking about the U.S. Unified Community Anchor Network (UCAN) Juniper senior vice president for Americas Enterprise Sales Andy Zupsic said that the "infrastructure will connect 200,000 community anchor institutions and 35 million individuals across the U.S., as well as encourage the adoption of next-generation Internet applications. This network will have the power to support high-bandwidth applications in such life-changing fields as telemedicine, public safety, and distance education."

Level 3 connects into BATS Europe. Level 3 Communications (LVLT) announced the availability of direct connectivity into global financial markets technology company BATS Europe, operator of a European Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF). This new offering allows Level 3's European financial services customers access to their international Tier 1 backbone and trans-Atlantic routes with diverse landing stations. "The tremendous growth of BATS Europe is a result of our forward-thinking approach to technology and understanding of the importance of fast, reliable global connectivity," said Paul O’Donnell, chief operating officer at BATS Europe. "We’re committed to providing communications access solutions to market participants that meet the rigorous demands of the financial trading industry. We’re pleased to include Level 3 among the providers from which our participants may choose to connect to BATS Europe."

Telx selected by Carrier to Carrier.  Telx announced that Carrier to Carrier Telecom B.V. (C2C), a full-service communications provider based in The Netherlands, has established a Point of Presence within Telx's 60 Hudson St. data center facility. "Telx is pleased that C2C is realizing the value of its carrier-neutral PoP at 60 Hudson," said Brad Hokamp, CMO of Telx. "This location is in high demand by global companies in need of a secure, low latency interconnection facility that gives them the flexibility and choice in carrier connectivity they require to offer international customers the best in telecommunications solutions." C2C provides satellite communications solutions, global terrestrial solutions, holds a high level of security clearance and has a footprint that covers Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia.
