- SoftLayer, The Planet Outline Merger Plans - SoftLayer Technologies and The Planet are discussing a blockbuster merger that will make the combined entity one of the world’s largest providers of web hosting and cloud computing services. The new company will have more than 25,000 customers and manage more than 78,000 servers.
- Eaton Acquires Enclosure Maker Wright Line - Eaton Corp. has agreed to acquire Wright Line Holding, which specializes in energy-efficient enclosures for data center racks. The deal continues a trend in which the largest vendors of data center equipment are expanding their offerings through acquisitions.
- GI Partners Leads Buyout of SoftLayer - Private equity firm GI Partners has backed a management-led buyout of growing IT infrastructure specialist SoftLayer Technologies, the companies said today.
- Groundbreaking for Austin ‘Data Ranch’ - Colocation and disaster recovery specialist Data Foundry held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for its Austin Data Center (ADC2), a 250,000 square foot data center on its new Data Ranch campus in Austin, Texas. The first phase of 130,000 square foot facility scheduled to be completed in June of 2011.
- A Vision for the Modular Enterprise - i/o Anywhere is a family of modular data center components that can create and deploy a fully-configured enterprise data center within 120 days. i/o Data Centers says these factory-built modular designs can transform the cost and delivery time for IT capacity.
