Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Peer 1 announces NVIDIA GPU cloud.  Peer 1 announced the availability of the industry's first large-scale, hosted graphics processing unit (GPU) Cloud at the 37th Annual Siggraph International Conference.  The GPU cloud system runs the Reality 3D web application service platform, developed by mental images, a wholly owned subsidiary of NVIDIA. “With their commitment to best-in-breed technology and state-of-the-art data centers, Peer 1 Hosting has all the skills to deliver a service of this kind and make the power of the GPU more accessible than ever before,” says Sumit Gupta, product line manager of Tesla products at NVIDIA. “RealityServer running on PEER 1 Hosting’s GPU Cloud will enable software developers of other Web 2.0 websites to offer 3D web applications, making the consumer experience on the Internet even more interactive.”  The GPU Cloud hosting will be offered from PEER 1 hosting data centers in Toronto, Canada and London and will deliver such capabilities as graphics rendering, complex quantitative processing, video compression, and large-model 3D web services for access by mobile clients.

The Planet's server cloud selected by SiteGround.  The Planet announced that one of its largest reseller partners, SiteGround has selected the company's Server Cloud as the new standard for its cloud offering.  SiteGround hosts over 250,000 domains worldwide and will add the cloud offering to existing shared, reseller and managed dedicated hosting solutions. “Our customers rely on us to provide them with the best options to support their businesses, so we’ve thoroughly evaluated cloud options on the market," said Tenko Nikolov, CEO of SiteGround. "The Planet Server Cloud behaves like a dedicated server by guaranteeing our fair share of space, traffic and CPU, at a cheaper cost."

Peak 10 adds XO network capacity.  Peak 10 announced that it will be adding a 10 Gigabit port from XO Communications to the Peak 10 network. The 10 Gigabit port will provide Peak 10 customers additional large-scale bandwidth and be installed at the Peak 10 Atlanta facility. "Our network enhancements allow for an increase in the number of external peering relationships available to each Peak 10 market, as well as the flexibility for Peak 10 to assimilate and add data centers in both existing and future markets," said Ronnie Frames, the director of network services for Peak 10.
