- Hamilton: Pace of Innovation is Quickening - James Hamilton of Amazon says data center designers are beginning to look past historic assumptions, and that openness to new approaches is critical to solving tough design problems. "There’s a wildly quickening pace of innovation in data center design,” said Hamilton.
- Google: How We’re Making the Web Faster - At last year’s Velocity conference, Google detailed how faster web pages were boosting its bottom line. This year the search giant is showcasing how it is using its software, servers and infrastructure to create a faster Internet – and calling on site owners to join the effort.
- Capacity Planning at Internet Scale - Capacity planning is one of the most critical and challenging tasks for managers of growing web sites. At the Structure 2010 conference Thursday, infrastructure managers for some of the web’s largest sites compared notes on how they scale to deliver content to hundreds of millions of users.
- Blue Waters: Awesome Power, Awesome Efficiency - The Blue Waters Supercomputer was unveiled Wednesday on the campus of the University of Illinois. The water-cooled supercomputer features the latest IBM technologies and is housed in a new data center facility with an expected PUE of 1.2.
- Opscode Unveils Funding, Hosted Platform - Boosted by a fresh round of funding from investors, Opscode Inc. has launched the public beta of its hosted platform to automate cloud infrastructure. The new offering is based on Chef, Opscode’s open source framework that enables companies to build and manage automated infrastructures.
- Data Center IPOs of 2010 - As the economic crunch begins to ease, and demand for mission-critical facilities remains strong, a handful of data center providers have announced plans for IPOs this year.
- Data Center Day in Quincy - On Monday the Port of Quincy hosted a special reception to celebrate the passage of the data center tax incentive legislation.
