AMD currently has more than 2 million processors supporting cloud computing services, the company said this week. “The explosion of digital data is fundamentally changing the dynamics of how servers are built, bought and deployed,” AMD said in a blog post by Margaret Lewis. “The days of just throwing ‘raw’ performance at the problem are long gone and the era of efficient computing with servers that balance price, performance and power is officially upon us.” AMD this week will be showcasing its the Opteron 4000 and 6000 Series platforms as candidates to power the projected huge growth for cloud computing. How big is the market opportunity? In this video, AMD assembles a variety of data points about the growth of data centers and the workloads they manage. This video runs about 3 minutes, 45 seconds.
