Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:
Total Site Solutions selected by US DoD. Fortress International Group (FIGI) announced that its subsidiary, Total Site Solutions has been awarded a contract with an international consulting firm, for work primarily in support of the United States Department of Defense and associated agencies. Work recently commenced on the $10 million Blanket Order Agreement that covers architectural, engineering, and construction support services for a variety of minor and new construction projects. “We have worked with these DoD agencies on multiple projects over the last several years, and are proud that they have again recognized our technical capabilities and expertise in working with mission critical facilities,” said Fortress’ President and COO Gerald Gallagher. “Given the prime contract is for a five-year duration, we are confident our contract will also extend beyond 2010. We also believe Fortress is well positioned to secure additional business from this customer as subsequent project phases are initiated,”
Isilon deployed by StrataScale. Isilon Systems (ISLN) announced that StrataScale, Inc. has deployed Isilon scale-out NAS to power its new Private Cloud service, offering organizations a responsive, reliable and secure cloud computing platform utilizing dedicated physical resources. StrataScale can reduce capital costs and operational overhead by with storage resources scaling in sync with customer demand. “We’ve seen significant demand for our Private Cloud offering, and consequently we require a storage solution that can match our platform’s flexibility and keep pace with growing demand,” said Denoid Tucker, vice president of technology at StrataScale. “Isilon scale-out NAS does exactly that.”
Hewlett Packard reports second quarter results. HP (HPQ) announced financial results for its second fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2010. Net Revenue of $30.8 billion was up 13 percent from a year earlier and GAAP operating profit was up 25 percent to $2.9 billion. “HP drove double-digit revenue growth and improving profits, contributing to our twentieth consecutive quarter of year-over-year operating margin expansion,” said Cathie Lesjak, HP executive vice president and chief financial officer. HP projected an eight to nine percent increase in revenue growth for the full fiscal year 2010 and estimates revenue of approximately $30 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2010.
Digital Realty Trust appoints Kris Kumar. Digital Realty Trust (DLR) announced that Kris Kumar has joined the company as Regional Head, Asia Pacific, a new position at Digital Realty Trust. Mr. Kumar will coordinate operations, identify strategic investment opportunities and oversee several initiatives in the region. Mr. Kumar will be based in Singapore. “Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and the tech centers in India are strong emerging markets for wholesale datacenter space. Kris’s deep customer relationships and technical expertise will be a tremendous asset to Digital Realty Trust as we build a strong foundation for our future growth in the region,” said CEO Michael F. Foust. Kris Kumar comes to Digital Realty Trust with 28 years of experience in the IT/data center infrastructure, property and marine industries.
