Microsoft, HP, Savvis Earn Green IT Awards

Microsoft, HP and Helsingen Energia were the winners of the major categories at the Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards presented yesterday by The Uptime Institute at its annual symposium in New York.

Microsoft, HP and Helsingen Energia were the winners of the major categories at the Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards presented yesterday by The Uptime Institute at its annual symposium in New York. The awards program, which is in its third year,  is designed to recognize notable energy efficiency projects. See our photo feature for the full list of winners.

Microsoft was the winner in the "Audacious Idea" category for its IT PACS (Pre-Assembled Components) and their role in the company's Generation 4 data center design.

HP received the Data Center Design award for its innovative approach to free cooling in its Wynyard data center on the shore of the North Sea in the UK.

Helsingen Energia was cited for innovation Beyond the Data Center for its underground data center beneath a Helsinki cathedral, which will reuse server waste heat in a district heating system.

Savvis was honored for Facilities Innovation for a project to improve the chiller and pumping systems controls in its NJ2 data center in Secaucus, NJ.

Other winners included Raritan, Verizon Wireless, Itau Unibanco S.A. and the U.S. House of Representatives. See our photo feature for pictures of all the winning teams.
