WrightLine, ADC Team on Containment System

Enclosure maker Wright Line has teamed with Advanced Data Centers and Rumsey Engineers to create a hot aisle containment system for high-density cabinets, the companies announced today. The product, dubbed the Independent Containment System (ICS), can support power densities of up to 30 kilowatts per rack. The product is being touted as a “vendor neutral” solution that can accommodate racks from multiple vendors.

The ICS uses blanking panels above and beside racks, allowing the enclosure to be assembled around racks and cabinets of different heights and widths. The prototype, which was built for ADC’s Sacramento facility, features “cafe style” doors that swing in both directions, making it easier for admins to enter and exit the hot aisle while still maintaining airflow and pressure. The ICS unit can use clear Lexan panels in its ceiling and exhaust chimneys, providing ambient light for the hot aisle.

“The effort of our three companies to develop this new product to address the growing heat issues in data centers is an example of corporate collaboration at its best,” said Bob Seese, Chief Data Center Architect for ADC. “Three diverse companies each approaching the challenge from a different perspective, but with clear intent and a common goal.”

Here’s a video demo of the product put together by Wright Line and filmed at the Advanced Data Centers facility. It runs about 4 minutes.
