New York Internet [1] has announced plans to open a new data center in Bridgewater, New Jersey later this year. The 40,000 square foot facility at 999 Frontier Road will “operate seamlessly” with NYI’s primary data center in Lower Manhattan, the company said. New York Internet provides colo services to many financial firms, and makes regular appearances on
Netcraft’s rankings [2] of the most reliable hosting providers. The new facility is designed to provide expanded disaster recovery and business continuity services for New York Internet’s customers.
“999 Frontier will enable us to deliver new and unprecedented levels of service,” Phillip Koblence, vice president of New York Internet, told
The WHIR [3]. “Between the facility itself and the list of partners we are assembling, customers who have come to love the NYI experience will be thrilled with the results.”
The announcement continues the strong activity in the
New Jersey data center market [4]. In 2009
Telx [5] has opened a new data center in Clifton, while
Cervalis [6] has leased space in Totowa and the
New York Stock Exchange [7] is building a new data center in Mahwah.
In 2008, Switch and Data (SDXC) opened its large new
data center in North Bergen [8], and Equinix (EQIX) began building out the next phase of its
NY4 facility [9] in Secaucus. In central New Jersey, Digital Realty Trust (DLR)
bought properties [10] in Piscataway and Franklin Township for conversion to data center use, while Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley made plans for new data centers in Bridgewater and Franklin, respectively.
