HCL America has acquired a 35,000 square foot data center in Parsippany, New Jersey from a Fortune 500 company. The deal provides HCL America, a division on Indian IT services company HCL Technologies, with additional data center space to house its "near-shore" data center services, including colocation computing, business continuity and mainframe management services.
HCL said it selected New Jersey due to its highly skilled workforce and close proximity to the companies' customers in New York City in the financial services, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries. HCL already has a U.S. operations center in Raleigh, North Carolina and a network of global data center faciliites that includes HCL's own facilities and those operated through its nine data center partners.
"HCL has made a long-standing commitment in growing its presence here in the United States, and today's announcement of a new, next-generation data center in New Jersey demonstrates our continued dedication, despite the challenging economic environment," said R Srikrishna, senior vice president for North American sales for HCL Infrastructure Services Division.
"HCL is focused on growing market share in North America," said Srikrishna. "Our new operations, not only in New Jersey, but also in North Carolina, enable us to accomplish that goal while benefiting the local economies through short- and long-term job creation for construction and IT support."
HCL has invested more than $15 million to upgrade the facility since taking over the data center from a Fortune 500 enterprise in October, 2008. The facility is being engineered to a Tier III equivalent data center, and the company plans to hire more than 100 local workers.
