Structure: Specialized Clouds on the Horizon?

Is there money to be made creating specialized clouds for industries that require highly specific computing tasks, from video trans-coding to fiscal transactions and medical records? The potential for custom clouds for industry verticals is the focus of a panel at Structure 09: Put Cloud Computing to Work, a conference by the GigaOm Network set for June 25 at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. In the Structure 09 panel "The Myth of the One-Size-Fits-All Cloud," GigaOm's Stacey Higginbotham will moderate a discussion with Rightscale CEO Michael Crandell, Savvis CTO Bryan Doerr, Microsoft Distinguished Engineer Yousef Khalidi, Accenture Director of Cloud Computing Joseph Tobolski and Sun Microsystems VP Lew Tucker.

The keynote speaker at Structure 09 will be Paul Sagan, the president and CEO of Akamai, while conference host Om Malik will conduct several "fireside chats" with Facebook CTO Jonathan Heiliger, Amazon.com CTO Werner Vogels and Sun Microsystems CTPO Greg Papadopoulos.
