Using Economizers to Save Energy

Peter Rumsey of Rumsey Engineers discusses the use of air economizers at Advanced Data Centers' LEED Platinum facility in Sacramento, Calif.

Fresh air cooling using air-side economizers - also known as "free cooling" - is being more widely adopted as data centers seek improved energy efficiency and lower Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratings. Advanced Data Centers recently hosted a meeting of the Critical Facilities Roundtable in which Peter Rumsey, the President of Rumsey Engineers, gave a presentation on the use of economizers at ADC's LEED Platinum facility in Sacramento, Calif. ADC says its economizers are a key piece of the facility's PUE rating of 1.12. Rumsey's presentation spans four 10-minute videos. The first is embedded below, while Part Two, Part Three and Part Four can all be viewed on YouTube.
