The Super Bowl's Data Center

What kind of technology infrastructure is required to support the Super Bowl? Network World [1] has a profile of NFL IT guru Dick Port, who discusses the temporary infrastructure that will support tonight’s Big Game in Tampa:

NFL essentially built a small data center with IBM blade servers at the temporary headquarters in a local Marriott near the Super Bowl site. “We built out an infrastructure with approximately 300 computers, PCs and laptops, and wired and wireless networks that are used for NFL core operations, for game production and business operations,” Port said.

CNet takes a similar look at Super Bowl technology, noting that the IBM blades are using VMware [2] to run virtualized operations at each of its four venues in Tampa. Both stories are being discussed at Slashdot [3].
