Hudson Ditching Photo Traffic Slows TwitPic

TwitPic is getting hammered by traffic after a user posted extraordinary photos of passengers evacuating the US Airways plane that made a water landing in the Hudson River this afternoon. The free service, which allows Twitter users to share photos online, was unavailable at time but now appears to be responding (albeit slowly).

Twitter user Janis Krums was on a ferry crossing the Hudson when US Airways flight 1549 ditched in the river. As passengers evacuated onto liferafts and the wing of the plane, Krums took a picture on his iPhone and uploaded it to TwitPic as twitpic.com/135xa. The photo has since been posted by numerous blogs.

"We are getting tons of traffic right now due to http://twitpic.com/135xa and the site is running slow," TwitPic's Noah Everett reported, later adding that "Twitpic is getting hammered."
