Microsoft To Release Best Practices on Energy

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced yesterday at the CEBIT show in Hannover, Germany that the company would be releasing its data centre best practices to share its experience running large data centers around the world. The best practices will be made available on Microsoft’s web site. "By following the best practices announced today, Microsoft data centers such as the one recently announced in Dublin, Ireland, will consume less than half the energy of similar-sized data centers that were built just three years ago," the company said in its release.

A summary of the best practices is available as a Word download, while Microsoft also has several videos about its data center efficiency program available as Windows Media files. The first includes comments from Microsoft data center executives Debra Chrapaty and Mike Manos and the EPA's Andrew Fanara, while the second features a Q-and-A with Rob Bernard, Microsoft chief environmental strategist.
