Roundup: JibJab, Equinix, VISI, NSA

A roundup of data center news concerning Equinix (EQIX), JibJab Media, VISI and the NSA.

Here's a roundup of data center news from around the web this morning:

  • It takes a lot of horsepower and bandwidth to deliver those wacky political videos around the Internet. That's why JibJab Media has moved its data center operations to Equinix (EQIX), the company said today. "Equinix IBX centers are the best in the business, giving us the peace of mind that we don't need to worry about our data center and network connectivity infrastructure," said Phillip Morelock, vice president of engineering for JibJab Media Inc. "After a thorough review of existing data center and network exchange solutions, we found Equinix to offer all of the qualities that we need for our online operations." JibJab is known for its online political parodies, but also runs a subscription-based eCard service
  • Minnesota colocation and managed hosting provider VISI has shelved plans for a data center expansion in Duluth, according to local media. The decision leaves the Duluth Technology Park without an anchor tenant. VISI had planned an $18 million data center at the park in duluth, but is focusing its development efforts on a new headquarters and data center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
  • There was discussion yesterday on Slashdot about the new NSA data center in San Antonio, including concern that the NSA chose  the site so it could mine data from the Microsoft data center in San Antonio. Local officials in San Antonio have clearly sought to leverage Microsoft's decision, but the NSA leased its site in 2005, before Microsoft came to town.
