Microsoft Finishes San Antonio Data Center

Microsoft has completed its massive new data center in San Antonio [1], and will hold an official opening ceremony on Monday. Microsoft (MSFT) broke ground [2] on the $550 million project on July 30, 2007, meaning it completed the 400,000-plus facility in about 13 months.

The Microsoft facility has been a major shot in the arm for San Antonio [3], helping the  Westover Hills area develop into a significant data center hub. was announced in January, and has been followed by the announcements of data center projects by the National Security Agency [4], Stream Realty [5], Christus Health Systems [6], Valero Energy, Frost Bank and Power Loft [7].
