It's already a busy news week in the cloud computing sector, with a flurry of announcements from cloud storage providers:
- Cloud storage provider Parascale said it has closed an $11.37 million Series A financing round led by venture capital firms Charles River Ventures and Menlo Ventures. Parascale plans to use the money for product development and marketing initiatives in preparation for the launch of Parascale Cloud Storage (PCS), an application that aggregates disk storage on multiple standard Linux servers providing one highly scalable storage cloud.
- Nirvanix, another cloud storage provider, said it has partnered with CDNetworks to deliver a "unified cloud storage and content delivery" service. The new service allows CDNetworks' customers to store content online and move it to and from any of CDNetworks' 63 nodes worldwide, while Nirvanix customers can stage content for instant delivery anywhere by using one of CDNetworks' data centers for local delivery.
- 3Tera announced the
availability of its MySQL-R appliance, designed to provide easy database replication for scaling and disaster recovery. MySQL-R is the first appliance in 3Tera's complete Disaster Recovery Suite available with the AppLogic Grid operating system. - Online photo storage service SmugMug has partnered with Amazon Web Services to launch SmugVault, which provides unlimited storage of JPEG (what your camera stores), GIF and PNG files, but also other file types such as RAW, TIFF, PDF and PSD.
