R2-D2 As A Server Monitoring Platform

What happens when you hire Star Wars enthusiasts to staff your data center? You end up with the R2-D2 server monitoring system, of course! The staff at Japan's Syun have converted an R2-D2 DVD Projector into a Nagios-based server monitoring system that alerts them whenever a system goes offline. It's not quite a holographic Princess Leia ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Our servers are down!"), but the next best thing. The video demo is about 3 minutes. It's in Japanese with subtitles, but the visuals tell the story.

Hat tip to Gizmodo for the link. A diagram is available at the Syun blog (Japanese language). For additional video, check out our DCK video archive and the Data Center Videos channel on YouTube.
