Peter Gabriel’s Server Stolen From Data Center
When musician Peter Gabriel’s official web site went offline Monday morning, it turned out to be more than a misconfiguration or hardware failure. The servers were gone completely. Here’s the message at PeterGabriel.com:
The majority of Real World, Peter Gabriel and WOMAD web services are currently off-line. Our servers were stolen from our ISP’s data centre on Sunday night – Monday morning. We are working to restore normal service as soon as possible.
Gabriel’s website is hosted by Rednet Ltd, a bankrupt subsidiary of Opal Telecom (which in turn is owned by CarPhone Warehouse). This is the latest in a series of equipment thefts in the past year, including armed robberies at CI Host in Chicago and a Verizon facility in London. See The Register and Softpedia for more.
