• Report: Google Data Center in Lithuania

Google (GOOG) is considering building a data center in Lithuania, according to local media reports in that country. The business daily Verslo Zinios reported on Monday that the Lithuanian government is in negotiations with Google about locating a data center near a hydro power plant in the Kaisiadoriu district of central Lithuania. The “negotiations over investment were to be closed soon,” the paper said. The Lithuanian development agency declined to comment.

Google wouldn’t address the reports, citing competitive concerns. “Google invests heavily in technical facilities and has dozens of facilities around the world with many computers,” said Jon Steinback, Google’s spokesperson for the EMEA. “However, for competitive reasons, we don’t disclose exact numbers or locations of facilities or computers.”
