Huge Antennas at Terremark Va. Site

Terremark's new data center complex in Culpeper, Va. will feature nine 80-foot-high globe-shaped antennas, according to site plans . The huge antennas, which will be used to receive data and provide backup satellite Internet connections, were approved last week by the Culpeper County planning commission.

Terremark's plan for the Culpeper campus calls for a first phase featuring 102,000 square feet of data center facilities on Technology Drive adjacent to the Germanna Community College Center for Advanced Technology, according to local media reports. Terremark's master site plan calls for up to five 50,000 square foot data center facilities, built in a modular approach based on customer demand.

The company expects to invest $55 million to $60 million in construction of the first data center, which will break ground in June of 2007. Terremark hopes to begin installing customers in June 2008. The Culpeper site is one of two new data center complexes being built by Terremark to capitalize on strong demand in Silicon Valley and Northern Virginia.
