Search engine Ask.com, a unit of IAC (IACI), yesterday confirmed earlier reports [1] that it will build a data center at the TITAN complex in Moses Lake, Washington. The project adds to the growing list of data centers in central Washington state [2], which already features data centers from Microsoft [3], Yahoo [4], Sabey Corp. [5] and Intuit [6].

Unfortunately, the press release [7] from Ask.com doesn’t add much to what was already public about the project. The company says the new facility will be “eco-friendly” and provide additional computing power its new Ask3D feature, which combines images, video and music as well as links on a single results page.

“Moses Lake is an ideal location due to its cooperative business environment, access to low cost, renewable power and superior network connectivity,” said Chuck Geiger, Chief Technology Officer of Ask.com. “With these inherent benefits, Eastern Washington is the right choice for Ask.com as we expand our computing infrastructure to support our growth and expanded search services.”

“Ask.com’s presence in Moses Lake will positively impact our community in a variety of ways, and we are pleased to have them as an integral part of the area,” said Ron C. Covey, mayor of Moses Lake. “We look forward to Ask.com’s contributions and their ongoing support for the city’s economic development.”
