Microsoft is incredible at "inventing" stuff that other people have long pondered, and even acted upon. Sun's BlackBox project was probably the first one to talk about portable data centers, followed by Google at some point. The interesting thing is that, Microsoft is only talking about it, while Google is barely talking, but working overtime to setup datacenters like crazy all over the US. Look at this link:
<a href="http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2007/Apr/04/google_announces_600m_so_car_project.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2007/Apr/04/google_announces_600m_so_car_project.html</a>

This has been possible for a long time, ever since linux grids (or other unices) have been available. The only thing new is that M$ now has wet dreams about a 'new' OS that can do this thing too. So basically these clowns have found another creative way to say "metoo, metoo!".
Nobody would be very supriced if a big percentage of those irrecoverable hardware failures would in fact be irrecoverable software failures, the failure being that M$ products were installed...

wow,

i like the tone of the article, touting that it takes a company like m$sft to "make something work" (read: profitable). Since when has microsoft ever taken (stolen) an idea and made it better?

bandwagonistas, they are.
